Is Tom Cruise to old to be an action star in the movie game? From the looks of the Mission: Impossible Four – Ghost Protocol trailer the answer is a resounding “NO”. Looking older and rougher than you’ve seen him before Ethan Hunt (Cruise) appears to be a man carry scars and a crap load of pain. His secret is lost some where behind those dark eyes.
Ghost Protocol promises to be just as much of an action-packed dramatic morsel as the three preceding films in the franchise. Directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles) in his live action debut, this film feels just as twisted and explosively complex as any of the other films. Oscar winner Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker, The Town) is a welcome addition to this franchise as the equally hard-headed Agent Brandt.
When the Kremlin is blown up and Ethan Hunt and the MIssion Impossible team are blamed, Hunt goes awol and attempts to clear the agency’s name. With dramatic action pieces, and incredible stunts, Hunt must scale the tallest building in the world (Burj Kahlifa in Dubai), this studio movie is going to be an adrenaline ride from start to finish.
The musical score (by Michael Giacchino) is beautifully ominous, creeping up on you in a thrilling way with his lush undertones promising you a story where no one can be trusted. When we surprisingly break into Eminem’s “Won’t Back Down,” you feel a cord of revenge (it’s time to take action), whip through your spine.
Ghost Protocol promises to take you on a ride this Christmas.
