Trailer Review By: Jonathan Wilson
When I hear the name “Gerard Butler”, I do not think the fresh face of Independent Cinema. But, what can I say… I’m a sucker for a gripping trailer.
This movie follows Sam Childers (played by Gerard Butler), on his journey from rebel biker bad boy, to one of the most under rated, sincere, action oriented philanthropists of our time.
Through a series of events, the main one being Sam’s conversion to Christianity, he takes a trip to Africa in 1998. While he’s there, he encounters Joseph Kony’s LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army), which is regarded as one of the most savage rebel forces in the area. They would pillage, forcibly evacuate entire villages, and then abduct hundreds of children that were either indoctrinated into the LRA, or sold in to sex slavery. As one might be able to guess. Sam has a HUGE problem with this, and takes it upon himself to change it.
I really like the idea of this movie. There is a story behind the story, but it’s important to realize that this story is based on Sam’s journey. Regardless of any political view, his actions have allowed for him to build an orphanage that cares for upwards of 300 children at any given time. I look forward to seeing this one.
