Rest in Peace Whitney…
Arguably the world’s greatest pop singer of all time, six-time Grammy winner Whitney Houston was found dead in her bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday. She was only 48. Ironically, her death came on the eve of her favorite night of the year: The Grammys.
The pop queen struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for years and was said to look “disheveled” at rehearsals for the Grammys last week.
Whitney paved the way for such greats as Mariah Carey, Beyonce and this year’s big winner, Adele. She will be truly missed.
At the Grammys…
With its largest viewer ratings since 1984, the night started off honoring Whitney with host LL Cool J asking for a prayer in her honor:
“There is no way around this, we’ve had a death in our family. Heavenly father, we thank you for sharing our sister Whitney with us … and although she is gone too soon, we remain truly blessed to have been touched by her beautiful spirit.”
And with that, the rapper said it was time to celebrate music.
Adele was the queen of the Staples Center, taking home six wins including Song, Record and Album of the Year. The Foo Fighters followed close behind with five wins while an absent Kanye West nabbed four.
Some of the performances were great (Jennifer Hudson’s rendition of Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You”) and some were, well, weird….like Nicki Minaj’s alter-ego-inspired exorcism, errr I mean performance.
Check out the pic of Roman Zolanski aka Nicki on stage last night….What’d you guys think? Strange or just plain cool?
On the Red Carpet…
Our top picks for best dressed go to:
1. Rihanna, nice new ‘do and sleek in black
2. Adele, glittery in Giorgio Armani
3. Fergie, bit see through but the bright orange is catchy
And the worst dressed (WTF were they thinking?!):
1. Nicki Minaj….is this Halloween?
2. Lady Gaga…can she ever dress normal?
3. Katy Perry….smurf?
And at the BAFTA Awards…
The Artist continued its sweeping success – proving it just may take down the Oscars – at the British Academy Film Awards last night in London. The silent film won seven awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
As predicted, Meryl Streep took home Best Actress for The Iron Lady, beating out Michelle Williams’ performance as Marilyn Monroe. (PS. Michelle wore a dress by none other than H&M! Specially made for her of course)
Wonder if Michelle will beat Meryl at the Oscars here in LA? We will find out in 13 days!
