The Hunger Games Break Record

The much talked about film, The Hunger Games, grossed a stunning $19.7 million after the midnight showings last night. Being shown on 2565 theaters nationwide this makes it the 7th biggest midnight non-sequel debut of all times according to the Wrap. $125 million is expected after the weekend! If the movie reach that mark it will become the biggest opening in March, ever! The one movie holding that record so far is Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland which reached $116 million in 2010.
Even though Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games reached impressive numbers it falls short to other midnight showings such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2 and The Twilight Saga- Breaking Dawn Part 1 last summer. Keep in mind that both those films were shown on more theaters than The Hunger Games.

When Burnett called them up to ask if they would like to be a part of the film they did not hesitate. Their song Tomorrow Will Be Kinder was offered as a free download when purchasing The Hunger Games tickets in advance and is on the film’s soundtrack. After that their whole world turned upside down. Shortly after they’ve been on red carpets and are currently in the number one spot on iTunes. What a story!
