‘The Bourne Legacy’ Jump-Starts a Franchise

What’s Bourne without Matt Damon?

It’s a big action picture written by a guy who knows how to write these things and starring a proven movie star.

In other words, it’s Bourne.

In The Bourne Legacy, Jeremy Renner is stepping into Universal’s franchise as Aaron Cross — an indestructible CIA operative who’s a whole lot like Jason Bourne.

Tony Gilroy, who wrote the 2007 The Bourne Ultimatum, the 2004 The Bourne Supremacy and the 2002 The Bourne Identity, wrote and directed.

Check out the teaser trailer here:

Bourne has been good to Universal. The three movies have grossed $945.4 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, it’s shaping up to be quite a year for Renner. He starred opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which debuted Dec. 21, 2011, and he plays Hawkeye in Disney’s The Avengers, which is looking at a $150 million-plus opening on May 4.

The Bourne Legacy opens Aug. 3.

  1. Even without Matt Damon, I would still like to see this movie.
