Variety is reporting that Armie Hammer, Ben Kingsley, John Malkovich, Michael Sheen, and Teresa Palmer are set to star in “Cut Bank.” The script, by Robert Patino, made waves about town when it was on the 2009 Black List, and it’s now on way its way to the Cannes marketplace. Matt Shankman is set to direct the indie, about a football player turned auto mechanic who wants to get out of his small town of Cut Bank, Montana.
It’s a pretty great and somewhat eclectic cast. Hammer is best known for his turn as the Winklevii in “The Social Network” (coincidentally, also a 2009 Black List script…like moths to a flame, that Armie) and can be seen in theaters right now in “Mirror Mirror.” Oscar winner Kingsley has been in countless memorable films, and the method actor will next be seen in “The Dictator.” John Malkovich had a whole movie about being him, so ’nuff said there. Sheen’s done his fare of shorts but most notably plays Aro in the Twilight franchise. And we’re huge Palmer fans after her portrayal of Emelie in the fantastic Sundance short “Bear,” which is one of the best films we’ve seen so far this year.
“Cut Bank” is definitely a project to keep an eye on. And in the meantime, check out the teaser trailer for “Bear” and try to see it at a festival near you.
